La Carnavale recount

On the 19th of May we performed our yr 6 La-Carnavale. It went great and was so exciting and fun. Each yr 6 class learnt a different dance and inquired further into it in class. It was so fun that I would definately do it again. Our dance instructor Robyn tought each yr 6 class a different dance like 6JAK danced latino, 6DG danced indiginous, 6MH danced hip hop and 6HB danced disco. We performed it four times for all different ages.

We first arrived in the hall with a girl and a boy both holding a dragon head we created in our art lessons with all four yr 6 classes holding a long sheet over their heads shaking or using musical instruments like clapping sticks or marackers. We were a chinese dragon. We looked further into chinese dragons in our chinese lessons.

Then, our class (6JAK) performed a musical song we created in our music lessons from the book 'Kids on our block'. The instraments we used used were bases, xylophones, metalaphones, guitars and percussion instruments like drums and cow bells.

Next, we performed our latino dance that we got taught by Robyn. The girls performed in black tops and colouful skirts and the boys performed in loose, white work shirts from their dads and their school pants. Both girls and boys wore our latino masks we also make and created in art. It looked amazing.

Thirdly, a small group (Sophie and Bec) from 6MH performed a beautiful jazz dance. It was spectacular.

Fourthly, 6MH did a rap also from the book 'Kids on the block' that each verse was performed in little groups of people. It sounded really cool and the actions and rythm was really catchy. After that they performed their class dance of hip hop that got you on the edge of your seat. They wore shirts they made themselves in art.

Next, after our latino dance, four boys from 6HB (Ben, Jack, Angus and Omer) performed a miming performance they created as a group in class. It was great, very creative and an awesome idea.

Then, 6DG began with a 'Kids on the block' song made in music then went into their great class indiginous dance. They wore black clothes and no shoes with their black, yellow and red head masks made in art. The sound affects were awesome and I loved the enthusiasim.

After, came the 6JAK jazz monkeys. They also performed a jazz performance that was made up of Jacob J, Jacob S, Jack W and Nii A. It was a really good routine.

Next, was the 6HB disco class. Firstly they played a 'Kids on the block' piece then they performed a class disco dance that was great and extremely groovy.

Lastly, a group of Matt, Patrick, Emma, Sampath and Cameron all performed a very extreme hip hop dance that was very creative and fun to watch.

I think having dance as our unit of inquiry has been a great experience for all of yr 6. I personally think it went better than I thought and that everyone put 100% into learning the dances and joining in. I felt part of a group and enthusiastic to learn more. Special thanks to all the teachers and of course Robyn.
